C Aguilera

Trauma can be passed down through generations, but so can healing. Creating art equips me with the tools to mend the intergenerational wounds I carry within myself. Working with clay allows me to move through cycles of care, labor, and reflection, honoring the ebbs and flows of healing. Through this process, I reclaim my voice and assert my presence in a lineage. In my functional ceramics, I explore the complexity of human existence from both a collective and personal perspective. Inspired by the concept of sonder, each piece acknowledges the individuality and value of every life. Though similar in form, each piece remains distinct, shaped by the movement of my hands and the pressure of my touch. Imprints and inlaid marks act as evidence of my presence, affirming that lived experience—my own and others’—is worthy of recognition. Expressing myself through clay is a radical act of reclamation and validation. We have been here. I am still here, and I am healing.
