Margaret Seidenberg-Ellis

I try to capture some of the contrasts and variety that I find in nature in my work. My work is hand built most often with slabs of clay. I often make marks through layers of contrasting slips on the surface of the slabs to create movement and a dynamic quality that I find exciting. I love to fire my work in a wood kiln sometimes with added soda or salt. I have fired in several local kilns most often at the Lancaster Creative Factory. The natural ash deposits and the flashing of the wood firing add a spontaneous quality that is somewhat beyond my control and it is these wood-fired forms that come the closest to expressing my ideas about nature and beauty.
