My ceramic cats serve as placeholders for the voice of my inner child. They function as rattles, giving them a purpose: a creature that makes noise. Growing up in a dysfunctional household, I often felt the need to silence myself, hoping to not contribute to the chaos. As an adult I understand the necessity of speaking up and setting boundaries even at the risk of upsetting those around me. I have three pet cats that have no problem taking up space or asking for what they need that often inspire my forms. The ceramic cats serve as a reminder to myself that I am not only a maker, but a noise maker as well.
