Reece Henderson

In my work I seek to capture the complexity of the human experience. My work uses figures, animals, and objects to convey themes such as relationships, anxiety, hopeful imagination and wonderment. Whether the work is dealing with happy moments in life or tougher times, I like to use soft colors and cartoon-like characters to make the themes more approachable. My work is influenced by the art and culture of skateboarding and punk rock music. Within skateboarding and punk music is an idea of unfiltered, fast paced expression. The art and music is oftentimes simplified in order to allow the viewer to acknowledge and understand the feelings the artist is trying to convey much quicker. I try to incorporate this attitude into my work by limiting how much planning goes into each work. Oftentimes, a piece will simply start from a feeling and then begin to take shape, changing and evolving as my own feelings and mindsets are changing.
