My work speaks on generational trauma and relational memory. In my sculptures I preserve and archive my memories and those of family members. I use archival materials and preservation techniques I’ve learned as a museum taxidermist. Living with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, my relationship with memory can be convoluted. Memories are buried, they resurface, and alterations are made and dictated by time. Many memories are fractured and the act of recalling them simplifies them down to the objects involved. In my work, I investigate these objects with care, examining and highlighting the aura I associate with them. I search for evidence, preserve it, and package it safely as if it’s a specimen. My archive allows viewers to share in my experiences by viewing these memories, hearing the sounds, and reading my entries on them. I aim to create transactional moments of vulnerability and trust between myself and the viewer through the process of making and showing the work.
