Alice Templeton

I was first inspired by a potter as a young child, and have had my hands in clay ever since. I’ve been a potter in Boston for over 25 years and a resident artist at Mudflat Studio in Somerville, Massachusetts since 2012. My Interest in animals stems from a childhood longing for companionship. Making miniature animals began as a comfort and has evolved into a way to explore my deep love of animals while also experiencing my connection to them. I work primarily with high-fire porcelain both for sculpting and wheel throwing. My sculpting process is mostly additive, whereby I form the parts with my fingers and attach them to the body of a piece. I’ve always been fascinated by the myriad patterns and details found in the natural world, and enjoy incorporating them into my work. Through my artwork I hope to help people experience the beauty and magic of nature, and work to preserve it. I believe we are a part of nature, not the rulers of it.
