James Lee

The history of ceramics, my peers and predecessors inspire my work. I stretch and tighten simple forms to bring dramatic appeal and beauty to my pieces. Starting from a blank canvas, a ball of clay; defined through simple means of water, pressure and heat, to that of a refined and elegant end product of pottery is intrinsically joyous. Not only does the form take shape once built but the application of glaze and color can further different dimensions and depth of the body of work. Solid colors washed over with hints of accentuation draw the eye to focal points of my body of work, giving it striking features with a minimal aesthetic.
