David Kruk
Recently, I have been interested in designs associated with counter-cultural aesthetics, specifically goth, punk, and some darker aspects of mysticism. The contrast between sleek traditional forms surfaced with jagged, tendril-like organic geometry creates a visual tension that feels simultaneously inviting and dangerous, soft and sharp. I enjoy tending to every aspect of the cup, carefully scratching away at the surface ensuring a harmony between edges and planes. The process of sgraffito feels ritualistic and meditative, like carving runes into stone or tattooing skin. I'm interested in the resonant energy created between an object's function, its surface, and the user.
