In my latest body of work, I am interested in intimate objects. Undergarments are intimate in nature. Many people wear them habitually but they are generally objects that are just for private spaces. In making a delicate and intimate object in clay, it becomes permanent and unyielding. I have used the classic blue and white motif, like old Chinese pottery and then, later and perhaps more famously, Delftware, as a way to connect the subject matter of underwear with the history of clay in general. Delftware and "fine china" are objects meant to be seen and displayed as a manner of wealth. My "Undies" series looks at that and decides to instead put the private on display.
