Each of these sculptures are recreated assemblages of ceramic objects. In the case of “Phantom Brick 1” and “Phantom Brick 2”, I have reassembled elements from broken brick sculptures which reinterprets these fragments. “Apotheosis” treats excavated broken cup fragments in the same way.
The “Phantom” bricks are held together with resin which gives them an ethereal, disembodied, floating quality that runs counter to our notions of brickness. The fragments comprising “Apotheosis” are arranged in an upward motion. Both of these effects physically metamorphosize these objects of ceramic debris into ceramic sculpture.
