My work currently incorporates themes of both movement and place. I’ve been interested in the duality that exists between placement and displacement and how individuals cope with this reality. As a kid I moved constantly, often with great objection to leaving the current environment behind. Relocation became a familiar and over time movement began to shape interpretations of the world around me. I use imagery inspired by nature and scenes discovered while traveling the Midwest and the South. This imagery is transformed into archetypal characters, deities, and symbols that interact in a mythological world. In essence, I’m attempting to create new mythologies that address aspects of contemporary reality. I make sculptural and functional works that are informed by agrarian life, erosions, and manmade structures that echo the landscapes of my homes.
