Emily Kleaver

My work centers around my personal exploration of the unconscious and ephemeral. Working with imagery and ideas stemming from religious texts, mythology, familial legends, and my own dreams, I fight to tie down my understanding of interpersonal and global systems. More than anything, I want to understand world around me through object making. As a primarily ceramic artist, I find comfort in giving non-physical ideas and characters a permanent place in this physical realm, working with the permanent nature of the ceramic object to tie down things of fleeting natures. I utilize a concept-driven practice with distinct imagery, soft contrasts, and a variety of earthy colors and textures to attempt to explain my own universe.
