What happens to the characters of fairy tales when the reader closes the book? I believe they go on to have more adventures when no one is looking. When I stopped to think about the further adventures of the Bremen Town Musicians I immediately thought that whatever they decided to do they would continue to end their busy days with a good nap together. The illustrator in me wanted to explore the musicians and capture their close friendships in a quiet and intimate moment using earthenware clay. I chose overglaze china painting methods to bring out each character, giving the sculpture an old world feel. This method of glazing helped to achieve a very painterly and illustrative aesthetic which ultimately combined my personal love of illustration and ceramics in one form.
