According to mythology the Hippocampus, or half horse-half fish, lives deep within the sea. If one were to search the sea even deeper they may find the elusive “Merdonk” rolling and twirling about on the ocean floor. His funny antics bringing joy and happiness to the other creatures, like the sea slugs, who live in and around the coral reefs. My love of story telling and creating ceramics has been brought together in this exploration of the mythological. The use of both underglazing and overglazing techniques on the earthenware clay has helped bring a vibrant, yet soft shimmering feel of the sea to this piece.
