Jiwon Lee

My initial interest in ceramic stemmed from my curiosity for new experiences in making artwork and background in painting. I started to make ceramic planters at first due to my personal needs for my hobby in horticulture which later became more of obsession of colleting rare plants and pots. I used to be more interested in challenging myself to communicate with the viewers through my artwork in a visually creative way but with ceramics, more I learned about it I became more intrigued in its unexpected and uncontrollable results in the end. I believe that my focus is in for more of self satisfaction and feeling playful during its process of making itself now and I hope I will continue to work with that attitude. My future goal in ceramic is continuing not only creating functional ceramic objects but mediums which can provoke imagination in people’s minds and deliver comforts as well as beauty in this chaotic world.
