Daniel Sullivan

My work is a personal investigation into grief, vulnerability, and resilience. The process of making allows me to explore my role of being a mother and a caregiver. To this end, I compose intricate networks and configurations as a response to the complexities that exist around chronic illness. Explorative marks are pressed into the clay offering a space of permanence and documentation. These objects allude to my desire to nurture and mend. It is my process of arranging and affixing individual units of pinched, fragile forms that draws a parallel to that motherly pursuit. The way these forms repeat creates a tactile record of navigating a duality between fragility and strength.
