With my recent object-based work, I recontextualize obsolete technology as cultural artifacts. These objects no longer serve a purpose both physically and culturally, but what they contain symbolically, for me, is more important. Coming from a lower-income family, these objects stuck around longer for me, driving a deeper connection to their functions. Most of all, these objects were a way for my younger self to mentally escape my environment and in turn, I explore a tricky sense of nostalgia within these pieces.
