This year I have three various pieces that are quite different from one another. First up is my Elephant which is part of my Zoo Animals on Wheels series. I have decided to create small sculptures of animals that you would typically find in a zoo and I put them on wheels reminiscent of old fashioned tin or wooden toys. I chose the elephant because it is one of my favorite animals and they are highly endangered. In fact, all of my animals in this series are, and because of this I have written how many are left in the wild on the bottom of each. Another small sculpture that I have included is a piece from my Lucky Heart series whereby a small handmade anatomical heart is adorned with a lucky symbol. The one I have included is a Lucky Beetle heart. In many cultures beetles symbolize good luck, strength and protection, and the Egyptian Scarab was particularly celebrated by ancient Egyptians who often depicted them in their art. I have used lucky symbols quite a lot in my work, especially in tiles, so the heart series is an outgrowth of that. I have also included another iteration from my Profane Series, this time a Queen B. The gold luster crown helps to elevate the profanity to another level. This piece is meant to be taken positively by those of us who embrace the word.
