My “Profane Series” originally came about during the Covid Pandemic and the first Trump presidency and summed up how many of us were feeling at the time. Six years later, during the second Trump Administration, it feels like things have gotten even worse. We have a morally corrupt authoritarian narcissistic president who is blantanly stealing from the American public in order to line his own coffers. I could go on and on describing how I feel about this president: arrogant, egotistical, moronic etc. etc., but instead have summed it up in my new bowls. I have borrowed two phrases from a Sex Pistol song which encapsulates it perfectly and adds a bit of punk rock to the work. These pieces are made out of porcelain and rimmed in gold luster overglaze which renders them rather fancy, precious vessels for the obscene. I’ve also included another Elephant, part of the Zoo Animals on Wheels series. These small sculptures of animals are reminiscent of old fashioned tin or wooden wheeled pull toys. This Elephant has its truck pointed up which is considered to be lucky. There is also a number writted on the bottom of it which signifies how many are left in the wild. Even though I had a similar piece in last years show which didn’t sell, I thought I would included it again as I hope that it will be a meaningful addition to this years Small Favors show.
