My journey with clay started later than most, but from the moment I first touched clay, I knew something life altering had happened to me. I immediately felt the healing power of the clay and the desire to connect that feeling with the world around me, to show who I am and what matters to me.
The majority of my work is hand built although I sometimes use the wheel as a starting point, altering and adding to the original piece. I use both stoneware and porcelain creating mostly sculptural pieces and firing in my electric kiln. I love getting lost in the intricacies of my designs and experimenting with new processes. Opening my kiln, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
I am very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by water, farmlands and big open skies all of which I try and incorporate into my work, although in today’s troubling world I believe it is also important to add an element of whimsy when possible.
