Maria Bruckman
My art focuses on the human body. I explore the relationships and attitudes of how we treat, view, and perceive our bodies. Our bodies, just like our views and tastes, are unique and beautiful in their own special ways. Through this series of porcelain work, covered in cell-like adornments, I encourage the viewers to embrace and celebrate the splendor and individuality of their bodies.
My thinly cast and hand-pinched vessels draw parallels between the fragility and strength of porcelain and of the human body. The smaller scale and highly detailed finishes play an important role in my work as I like to bring viewers closer to my pieces, allowing a pause, and to create a more intimate moment in the viewing of my work.
