Sandra Torres
Sandra Torress use of porcelain plays on contrast and modulation of different colors and shades. The colors softness and sharp edges create a dramatic chromatic composition in contrast to the white, translucent and matte porcelain surface. This push and pull accentuates the simplicity of the shape. Sandras desire for thin, delicate forms with a sturdy body inspired her to use slip casting. Her interest in unglazed surfaces led to her usage of soluble salts to create a selective palette of color that creates watercolor-like effects.
Porcelain, in the thinnest of its expressions, demonstrates a life of its own, moving to the heat of the firing and resulting in an imprint of its own memory.
