The Clay Studio offices, galleries, open studio, and school will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, in honor of the Independence Day Holiday.
David Stevens
In my work, I deal with youth, irreverence, and context through image-heavy vessels that reference the visual landscape of punk clubs in the bible belt and sculptural work that harkens to architecture, anthro-cryptology, suiseki, and the tea ceremony. I want to discover where the weight of these symbols and objects lies. Once the context is changed do these things remain important or become simply nostalgic? If they are only nostalgic, can they still have importance? I want the viewer to investigate what notions and ideas they bring to each piece and why those notions and ideas are significant enough to be brought.
