Charlie P Smith

My current work uses stylized forms and objects to examine the delicate tension between decay and preservation. Through intricate, textural forms, I explore how both the physical structures we inhabit and the objects we possess reflect the passage of time, the forces of nature, and the inevitability of deterioration. These works seek to examine the spaces where neglect and history coexist – crumbling structures, worn lettering, and weathered surfaces serve as metaphors for our relationship with the places we occupy, the objects we possess, and their effects on us. In this interplay between fragility and permanence, I seek to understand how the architecture we construct both shapes and is shaped by human life, bearing witness to the cycles of growth, use, and abandonment.
