Beth Lindenberger

I am not so interested in copying nature, but responding to it. My forms and surfaces are based on microscopic organisms and objects of pro-generation; engaging, interacting and suggesting potential. Cells, seeds, and the pods from which they emerge, referencing objects large and small; microscopic, telescopic, and that which can be viewed by the naked eye. Simple objects overlooked due to familiarity, suddenly invoke interaction as individuals or part of a system. Shapes and forms relating to the visable, symbolic of the invisable world. Some sharp and foreboding, others voluptuous and inviting. They are fragile, yet have delicate strength, and are affected by placement, interaction and their environment. I like these pieces to have their own mystery, an unknown quality that makes them familiar, perhaps, not recognized. Working in both porcelain and red earthenware, the surfaces are sometimes glazed, shiny and soft, other times unglazed and dry. I like to find the right clay to respond to the specific idea.
