Erin Paradis

My work investigates both natural and constructed environments, uncovering captivating shapes, objects, and compositions within seemingly ordinary spaces. Through my abstract ceramic work, I reinterpret these spatial encounters, whether through carefully composed installations or by depicting similar imagery on my vessels. I focus on the ways individuals ground themselves in new environments, situations, or life stages, aiming to initiate discussions about finding solace within transitional spaces. I explore these moments in my abstract ceramic work through an impression of line, texture, and color. In my studio, I've curated a collection of forms through multiple iterations and interpretations, observing their evolution over time. The arch is a recurring shape that I explore in my practice by uncovering ways that it can be built and formed. I’m captivated not only by its ability to frame space in a particular way but also by its ability to evoke tenderness and connect people and places together. Revisiting the arch and other significant forms in my practice brings me back to moments in my life where I’ve felt transformation and inspiration. In each new installation I create with a compilation of my ceramic forms, I am interested in the space they occupy and how layering and rearranging them can visually create new compositions. I materialize spatial encounters and transitional moments I have had, into my installations with the hope that viewers find intrigue and perhaps contemplate others' adversities and paths in life.
