I believe in the intrinsic value of fine craftsmanship but have only recently begun to think of it as political. Participation in mentorship, historical perspective, and a deep understanding of materials, tools, and processes all contribute to making things that are objectively better than others. In these Orwellian times, the serious practice of craft is my response to the confident ignorance of would-be fascists.
