In my practice, I often work directly in nature and/or use the world around me as inspiration. I focus mainly on functional wheel thrown ceramics. Oftentimes I create imperfections intentionally because I find significant beauty in the broken and imperfect. My recent work contains ash based glazes, or bare woodfired pieces. Because of the inherent lack of control in the wood firing process, there is an excitement of not knowing the full end results until after the arduous amount of time spent firing. There are often unintended outcomes and imperfections which I find beautiful.
