Diana Chamberlain

I moved to Philadelphia from Connecticut last November, and work out of my home studio in Fairmount. I work in porcelain and handbuild. I mix my own glazes and fire in an electric kiln. I choose to work in porcelain for its fineness and malleability and willingness to transform. My fine art training was at Central St. Martin's School of Art, London, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. I am a Guild Member of Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, CT, and an associate member of the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. I have been a member of printmaking studios as well as clay studios. A consistent theme in my work is home and community in co-existence with nature. I am drawn to images of city buildings that relate to the communal life in a city while also frequently being encroached on by nature. On ongoing series is dress vases; pieces that relate to dance and the figure in space. I am also working on a series of teapots. Provided a teapot is functional it can take any form -- a steamtrain, a building, or a bird. I like that teapots are iconic objects in many cultures and have a human aspect; they're about shared experiences and social ritual. My work has been exhibited nationally and is in private collections in the United States and overseas.
