Makenzie Burmeister

I am interested in the formal elements of ceramic object making. My artwork explores this interest through installations of ceramic objects that have high contrast, pattern, and texture. In my early ceramic work I was intrigued by the way texture, on the surface of the clay, would change the piece and give it depth. In my work today, I like to focus on the process of hand building my pieces. I create a high contrast using porcelain clay and black underglazes. I use primary colored, yellow, red and blue, underglazes to add more depth and to draw more attention from the viewer.
