Tara Carter

I feel incredibly lucky to live in such a beautiful little mountain town. Since moving here, it's been rewarding to watch how my work has evolved to reflect the colors and wildlife of Telluride. I split most of my creative time between making functional wares and sculpting ceramic birds. I make these sculptures for the same reasons that I enjoy birdwatching. It’s refreshing to open my eyes to a world that is more beautiful than expected. My goal is for the viewer to be drawn into the flashes of color, intricate feather patterns, and individual personalities by getting up close and examining birds that are typically out of view. Hopefully, seeing my work makes people more aware that the world may be larger than we think and that it’s worth opening our minds to a different perspective every now and then. My intention with every piece that I make is to awaken a sense of connectivity with the natural world.
