This year has been about pine cones and their spiralling geometries. Each build feels like an opportunity to get inside the mind of nature. When it's going well, it feels like I am experiencing the rhythm and harmony of an organic process, as if the cone was somehow growing in my hands. Every cone is different, sometimes in ways I can control, sometimes in ways that surprise me. I am having a conversation with nature, and when a cone grows to maturity and survives successive firings, that means I have been paying attention, listening to something bigger than myself.
