Austin Jefferson

Materials are the foundation for my work. I use local, unrefined clays and glaze ingredients in the most direct ways possible. This process has helped me express a sense of quietude and time that is present in the many antiques I admire. My pots are ultimately a reflection of my own history and love for the ceramic craft. I primarily work in red stoneware with a white ash glaze, fired to cone 6 oxidation. Different surface decoration techniques are used to iterate on these base elements. I also wood fire when possible, taking the opportunity to explore clay bodies that respond directly to the atmosphere.
