Artist Statement
I work to externalize and personify moments of bodily reality, the wonderful and fearful things I sense under the skin of life. Instinctively combining human forms with abstracted shapes, I want to understand the interior reality of myself and those around me. Each of us contains boundlessness, existence beyond our physicality. The clay I hold and the forms I sculpt are touchstones, created so I can condense the overwhelming interior into a comprehensible and tangible exterior object. The presence of the reassuringly familiar human figure within my work eases the viewer into contemplation of the rest; the volume and the void held inside each body.
