Angela Fontes

I am from Porto, a city in northern Portugal, born to a small family of women who refused to fit into a role or narrative not entirely their own. My work reflects the female consciousness that made me the person I am today. The courage to face the fears of life head on. In my ceramics I explore my roots and culture—the textiles, silhouettes and colors. As a fashion designer, I enjoy playing with textures and dimensions and draw influence from folk attire. I carry the stories of the women who raised me and the women who came before them. I carry their pain, their beauty, their strength and through clay I tell their tales to anyone who wants to see it.
