Yilin Wu

Yilin is an illustrator and ceramic artist. She specializes in figurative and innocent works, characterized by delicate colors and brushstrokes inspired by watercolor techniques. Yilin studied design during her undergraduate years and has been passionate about drawing since childhood. After graduating, she began her journey in ceramics through self-teaching. For her, works created directly by hand are more compelling, possessing a uniqueness that cannot be easily edited, deleted, or replicated. Influenced by her past experiences, her works often appear more playful and childlike than traditional sculpture, while still maintaining a sense of design. From Autumn 2024, she began her ceramic project “I Watched 100 Clouds...”. She sits outdoors with only a sketchbook, watching the sky and letting instinct guide her hand. Back in the studio, she translates those sketches into clay forms. She sculpts only clouds she has personally observed, always based on her own drawings. The final forms may differ from the real clouds, but they carry the presence of the maker through intuition. From Spring 2026, she began an another project “Skate in Pro Grass”. These are small animal-shaped skateboards that can be played with and moved across different surfaces. They evoke both skateboards gliding in skateparks and small animals running across grass. After breaking her leg in a skateboarding accident, Yilin could no longer continue skating. By creating these innocent and playful finger skateboards, she expresses her longing for and love of free movement. For this submission, she has selected two observed clouds and mountains, and a bunny skating in pro grass.
