JoAnne Sutkin

JoAnne is a potter who makes one of a kind pots for every day use. Her pots are made from porcelain or stoneware clay bodies, often small batched, and are wheel throw and altered. Each pot is unique. She fires her work in several different wood kilns for various effects, and multiple gas kilns, and usually introduces an additional element like salt at the end of the firing process to further draw out the unique qualities of each clay body and give each piece it’s character. While some variables are controllable, others are not, and the resulting wood fired pots reflect this tension.
