Clarissa Eck
I create pottery because it links us to the moment. The images I carve into each object dont live on a wall, they live in your hand, on your lips, near your heart. I owe my knowledge of this medium to my time spent as a student at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.
I was raised in the woods of the Hudson Valley, in close proximity to its wildlife. I spent summers in the mud and tall grass, capturing moths and discovering fox dens. I have always been fascinated by storytelling, mythology and how humans have, for thousands of years, characterized their surroundings. Plants, animals and celestial bodies all are players in our cosmic story, and have served as messengers to humankind for a very long time. My work is about honoring this forgotten relationship, banishing cynicism, and taking action at every level of impact to protect this earth and all forms of life on it.
