Artist Statement:
I make objects that are recreations of memories, which I seek out from fragmentary evidence. Having grown up in a Japanese family restaurant, I examine identity and heritage, filling in the blanks through food, ceramics, imagination, and dreams.
Bio:
Amy Shindo is a visual artist and co-director at FJORD gallery, based in Philadelphia, PA. Born in Toronto, Canada, Shindo studied ceramics at Sheridan College in Ontario, and earned an MFA in ceramics from Temple University. She was a recipient of an Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts (2016), Resident Artist at The Clay Studio (2016-2020), and Medalta International Artist in Residence (2024).
