Dominique Ellis

My current body of work is about slowing down to look beyond a cursory glance at the everyday, ordinary objects in our lives. Through the reconstruction of a historic projection process, I place images inside of a bright light box and capture the images projected into a dark room. In my photographs, I experiment with perception through the boundaries between what is the negative and the positive image. The material intelligence of these intimate objects reveal traces of the maker in each still life. The intersections of art, science, and technology and feminist studies have been a critical part of my visual research and practice through large format photography.
