Robin Williams-Turnage
I am Robin Williams Turnage
I am an Afro Indigenous sexagenarian. I am a true survivor. Art has enabled me to create a safety zone for myself and others. I am presently focused on my love for Fiber and Ceramic Art
My motivation for doing art is multi- layered. I use my Art to bring activities to underserved communities. I use my art to work through personal, family and cultural traumas. I use my art to find a safe place for my joyful and painful experiences. I prefer to keep my hands busy. Weather writing, making sculpture, Afro Indigenous tableware or teaching others, art continues to save me.
I also use my art to save others. In my work with addicts seeking recovery, I come across a lot of derailed talented people who are in need of a reintroduction to a healthier view of themselves. Concepts about being a starving artist or musician just aren't true for the truly gifted and the motivated.
I think that encouragement is the missing element in the lives of most people
