As a maker, my driving force is to create functional objects that connect the user to some part of themselves and the world that they hold dear. Humans often have a special relationship with particular animals; a chance encounter with a wild creature, a beloved pet, or a backyard visitor that pulls at our hearts and can call to our sense of self. The patterns are often inspired from vintage flour sack fabric, handmade rugs, the Arts and Crafts movement objects, and victorian print. The combination of these influences is meant to convey a sense of whimsy and curiosity while reminding one of the special relationship we as humans have with the world that surrounds us. For me, the act of making pottery has been both a way to connect to the very ancient human need to create functional objects, the power of communication held within illustration, and a means to rebel against the moment in time we exist in.
