Kay Lord Artist Statement Working with clay is an adventure. Clay is seductively accessible, yet challenging to master. Exploring its infinite possibilities is an opportunity for endless experimentation and discovery. I create sculptures that reflect an emotion or state of mind that I wish to explore. They often show a connection between nature, narrative, and the human form. Lately I have been intrigued with making faces that emerge from the clay. While I always start with a drawing and concept, the original idea frequently changes or expands as the work develops. Ideally my work is open to a variety of interpretations - it is exciting when viewers find their own personal meaning in my work.
