Hiroe Hanazono

Food is at the heart of everything I make. My work is shaped by my cultural upbringing in a Japanese household and a lifelong passion for food, rooted in the daily rituals of preparing, serving, and sharing meals. I see food as a source of connection, beauty, and care, and I aim to create objects that support and enrich those experiences. I design and create porcelain and stoneware tableware with a clean, minimal aesthetic. My forms are simple and sometimes unexpected, brought to life through muted or monochromatic surfaces that highlight rather than compete with the food they hold. Influenced by both traditional and modern design, I strive to create work that feels balanced, intentional, and quietly expressive. My process includes wheel throwing, handbuilding, and slip casting. I choose each method or a combination of them based on the desired form and function. As you view my work, I hope it invites you to imagine a meal: who you would share it with, what you would serve, and how these objects might shape that experience.
