This one-day, hands on workshop blends functional pottery with storybook-like illustration. Celia will guide students through her methods of using sgraffito and underglaze painting to achieve effects reminiscent of pen and watercolor. Students will learn strategies for slip application, composing and transferring drawings, as well as developing characters and narratives. The workshop will emphasize both technical skills, like achieving clean lines, and emotional aspects, such as feeling at ease with drawing on clay. All are welcome, from seasoned artists to those who feel they can't draw at all, offering a fun and approachable way to explore surface design.
For this workshop, we will provide pre-slipped tiles for students to practice the techniques. These will be low fired in an electric kiln.
