Do you crave an opportunity to pursue your own direction, at your own pace? The Studio Passport allows you access to all open studio times, which are overseen by a monitor instead of an instructor.  No demonstrations are given.  This class is limited to returning intermediate and advanced students of The Clay Studio only. (Times vary daily. See weekly calendar on the School Facts page of the website for open studio times).  This “class” is a great opportunity to focus on the techniques you’ve acquired, and provides ample studio time for you to independently explore your ceramic projects! You must be a member to register. The Studio Passport shelves and main studio will be located on the 2nd floor beginning in the fall. In this introductory class on mold making and slip casting, you will learn to make simple one or two part molds from found objects and clay forms of your own creation. Using these molds, you will generate a number of cast porcelain parts that can be altered and combined to create ceramic sculptures. Searching for that perfect glaze? This class will cover what a glaze is and its basic ingredients. In addition, students will mix glazes, test colorants and prepare flux variations for glazes at cone 6. These tests will be fired in both Gas and Electric kilns. Most mixing and testing will be done outside of class time in the glaze prep area of the studio. Please bring a notebook and pen to the first class.
