2015 Summer Clay Camps!
July 6 - August 28, 2015
Ages 6 and up

Fire up your creativity and join the fun at The Clay Studio's 2015 weeklong art camps, designed for ages 6 and up! Campers expand their imaginations and explore the exciting world of clay through a wide range of projects and building techniques. Whether working with sculpture, claymation, or wheel-thrown pottery, students learn in a supportive, small class setting with plenty of individual instruction and inspiration.

Campers are welcome to participate in a half-day camp or stay for a full day (excluding Claymation which is a full day.) Half-day camps meet for three hours each day (from 9 am – 12 pm or 1 pm - 4 pm) and include a short snack break. Half-day camps do not include a supervised lunch break. Supervised lunch is available for half-day campers  or campers who want to stay for the whole day for $20 per week and must be registered for separately. Supervised lunch includes lots of games, field trips to local galleries and historical sites, and more! The full-day Claymation camps meet for 7 hours each day (from 9 am - 4 pm) and include the hour-long supervised break for lunch. Parents should provide snacks and lunches. Extended-care is available from 4:00-6:00pm for $50 per week and must be registered for separately.

Returning this year, will be two programs for teens (ages 13-18) interested in throwing on the wheel and/or sculpture August 17-21 & August 24-28. 
More information regarding camps (emergency contact forms and general info) will be sent to registered families one week prior to camp.  

Every Friday parents and campers celebrate with an exhibition of works in progress and ice cream party. Each camper receives a free camp T-shirt!

Make fun, functional forms on the potter’s wheel and develop the skills to center, form, and trim your pots. Get inspired by forms and decorating techniques from ancient times to the modern masters to add personalized style to your work. This camp open to all levels includes a special lesson with the Center for Art Wood in which campers get to experience turning wood to make a project that combines clay and wood.

With clay you can build everything from houses, brick castles, and Minecraft worlds to decorative tiles, boxes, and wall sculptures. This camp focuses on the building techniques used to create architecture and includes a walking tour through Old City to get inspiration for your architectural wonders.

Join Claymobile teaching artists to learn how to make claymation just like in the movies!  You create, storyboard, and animate cutout and clay characters using the art of stop-motion animation. You also develop storylines, supply voices for characters, and by the end of the week, the group creates at least one animated short film.  The film is edited and each camper is provided with a DVD. Please note that the 6-8 year olds create mixed media and clay projects in the AM session that inspire their stop-motion animations in the PM session.

Prepare to get dirty as you learn the basics of wheel throwing in this fun camp open to all levels! Create bowls, mugs, plates, and more as you develop your personal ideas on the wheel.  Gain the skills to center, form, trim and decorate your pots. This camp is open to all levels and includes a special lesson with The Center for Art in Wood in which campers get to experience turning wood to make a project that combines clay and wood.

Create expressive face mugs and jugs, masks, tiles as well as playful portraits inspired by artists like Robert Arneson, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, and more. Investigate the work of Pablo Picasso to create abstract clay collages and rearranged self-portraits.

Centering your clay is the key to mastering the art of throwing on the wheel! You learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel to make bowls, cups, plates, and more. Complete your pieces with handles, spouts, and colorful slip decorations. This week includes a fieldtrip to Kaya Ariel Yoga in Old City to get centered on the yoga mat! No experience necessary.

Learn the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel as you discover the unique ways you can tell stories in clay. Use etching, sgraffito, and stenciling techniques to develop your narrative and imagery. Explore a variety of surface decorations and finishing techniques in this fun and inspirational workshop. Specifically structured for students 13 to 18 years old.
